Peace to you brothers and sisters. Today, our reading progress takes us to Psalm 102. Before we begin reading the Gospel of Mark, this chapter is quite fitting, as it describes the suffering that the Messiah, Jesus Christ, would go through in the world. Today, we will read the first half, from verse 1 to verse 11, and tomorrow we will read the second half, from verse 12 all the way to verse 28.

In verses 1 to 11, we see someone in extreme distress, crying out in pain. Many people can relate to the agony of facing life's hardships. When we are physically weak, if there is still hope in our hearts, we can continue to move forward. But when hope is lost, and all that remains is despair and desolation, that's when the real difficulties begin. This passage is also quite apt in describing what Jesus Christ endured during His time on Earth.

In verse 2, we see Him pleading with God not to hide His face from Him, beseeching God to respond quickly. In verse 4, His heart is described as withered like dry grass, to the point of forgetting to eat. These descriptions all show that when Jesus was on the cross, both His body and soul endured immense suffering. In verse 8, He mentions enemies who taunt Him and insult Him. By verse 11, He is still in great anguish.

In this Psalm, we can feel the loneliness, hardship, torment, and the feeling of being on the brink of death that the psalmist experienced when writing this. This is also where the Psalms provide great comfort. When we go through trials, we can better understand the preciousness of God's grace and why Jesus is the Savior who can save us - He went through the greatest suffering not because of His own sins but because of our sins. The perfect love, the greatest suffering, we see it all in Jesus. He is not a distant God but one who walks with us, fully understands us, and accompanies us through the darkest valleys.

May this passage help us better understand the suffering of Jesus Christ and make us reflect on all that He endured for our sins. Tomorrow, we'll explore the bright ending in the second half!"
